Dual Booting with Windows XP and Vista

For some people they don’t want to spoil the flow on their Windows XP. So here comes the solution, you can do a DUAL Booting Windows. And now that the new Windows Vista is available in the market and on new computers, people get influenced to it. So you might not want to screw up your whole system. The instructions are below:

First of all you will need to have 2 partitions on your hard drive or have two separate drives to make this work. Even though if you don’t have two drives, you can partition them but just that this Windows XP you are using is going to get lost and you will need to install again.

Secondly, to install Vista while you already have Windows XP and another partition drive with enough space for Vista (which would be around 20GB to 30GB for major programs incl.). You can either insert the Vista Disc while running Windows XP like installing any other programs or you can reboot your computer and choose to let it load from the disc drive (optical drive).

upgrade.jpgAfter you got it started, you will ask to answer different questions during the installation and in the first few there will be asked ‘What type of installation do you want?’ and you should choose ‘Custom’; selecting Upgrade changes on your Windows XP. Following the whole way through won’t allow you for dual-booting. So you will have to change the directory of where you want Vista to be installed which is another drive from where Windows XP is installed. Then just press next and fill in where you have to fill, and finish the installation.

Then the last stage is when you got the thing done, you reboot your computer and it will ask you whether which Windows OS will you use. This will always be the case when you restart your computer so when you don’t want to use Vista you can just switch back without having to install it. But for sure you will feel some difference in speed when you are using Vista because it uses a lot of physical memory(RAM).
