Tips: Fix MSN Messenger Virus img317.zip
23 August 2007

Thousands or millions of people are getting affected by the new virus or worm flowing in MSN Messenger called the “img317.zip” or “Images.zip”. Last night, one guy emailed me to ask for help because he was infected with the Worm, so I thought I might as well make a post to the solution. Here’s his mail:
I’ve received a file from one of my contacts with some message saying “I saw you naked in this pic” and the file “img317.zip” came along” so I double clicked it and then my computer stop and straight away I know I was infected with some virus. Then some of my contacts start to ask me why I can’t open the file you are sending me, and some are saying why are you sending me virus. And now every time I logon it will send to all my contacts that are online without me knowing. I tried to delete the file from “My Received Files” and still it is not gone, Can you please help me?
There are several ways to cure the MSN Worm “img317.zip”, but first of all make sure you delete the file from “My Received Files” so that you don’t accidentally go and double click it again. From then on there is three methods you could do it.
First Method:
Download the Worm Remover and special thanks to ThaiCert for making the application.
Second Method:
1. Close Your Messenger
2. End Task “winsyshp” in Task Manager Processes (CTRL+ALT+DEL)
3. Start > Run > type msconfig > startup > Uncheck Winsyshp
4. Go to C:\Windows\ and delete img317.zip and winsyshp
Third Method:
1. Close Your Messenger
2. End Task “winsyshp” in Task Manager Processes (CTRL+ALT+DEL)
3. Go to C:\Windows\ and delete img317.zip and winsyshp
5. Start > Run > Type regedit
6. At Registry Editor, go to directory : “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Run”
7. You should find [Microsoft Visual Application] winsyshp.exe
8. Choose Data and Delete
After all you can see that these worms doesn’t even take a minute to fix, so it is not actually dangerous, just that it spoils your mood. Have a good day
