Hitachi announces 500GB 2.5″ Hard Drive

Hitachi announces its two new large-capacity laptop hard drives, offering us with the 400GB and the 500GB. This means you will see more laptops coming with over 350GB in the next few months. The new laptop hard drives will be slightly larger with a 12.5mm thickness versus the typical 9.5mm ones. The drives will be releasing in February with the price tagged at $350 for the 400GB and $400 for the 500GB.
Asus will be the first company to take advantage of the large-capacity hard drives by Hitachi. Asus will be offering the 500GB drive in its M50 model, while in the M70 it will offering a dual-drive of the Hitachi 500GB which makes up 1TB.
Hitachi also hopes that desktop makers will redefine the desktop computers to be a smaller with the storage capacity staying the same.
