AT&T to sell iPhone 3G starting at $199

Fortune reports that AT&T is ready to subsidize $200 on the new iPhone that is going to be launched in June by Apple. But this price is only for customers that sign up for 2 years contract with AT&T. Apple will also be selling the iPhone 3G 8GB and 16GB at $399 and $499 respectively. Apple will probably cease shipment for the current model of the iPhone to prepare themselves for the June 27 debut which will mark a one-year anniversary or thereabouts. AT&T is subsidizing to catch more customers so that they gain in the long-term because they know that people would probably buy from Apple and unlock it if its the same price.
According to Taiwan Economics news, the new iPhone 3G is going to be smaller and thinner. The iPhone 3G is said to have a 2.8-inch screen instead of current 3.5-inch screen model and the iPhone 3G claims to weigh between 3.9 oz to 4.2 ounces which is lighter than the current 4.8 ounces. There has been confirmation from several source that iPhone 3G will supoort GPS capabilities. There are reports saying that Apple is requiring Foxconn to produce 3 million iPhone 3G for the June release.
